Wow, has it really been a century already? Yes, Universal Pictures is 100 years young (ok, old) this year! And we lucky Angelenos (in particular, Westwoodians) get to see three (count ‘em, three!) dozen classic screenings on the big screen at the Hammer Museum (Billy Wilder Theatre) to help celebrate the cinematic occasion.

Apr 30 Grammy Freebie: Screening of GEORGE HARRISON: LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD, 7pm at Grammy Museum, LA Live; Film Makes North America Debut on Home Video May 1 in 3 Editions

Martin Scorsese’s GEORGE HARRISON: LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD, which premiered on HBO last October, makes its home video debut in North America. Universal Music Enterprises is pleased to announce that it will be releasing the film on May 1, 2012, in three editions: 2-DVD set, Blu-ray, and a Deluxe Edition that will include the DVD, Blu-ray, special packaging and a 96-page book of photography to accompany the film, plus the exclusive 10-track CD EARLY TAKES Volume 1, featuring previously unreleased music from George Harrison.

About the Exhibit

Mr Musichead Gallery presents Six Shooters, an exhibition of photography featuring the work of six of the UK’s most talented music photographers: Andrew Cotterill, Andy Fallon, Paul Harries, Mick Hutson, Roger Sargent & Andy Willsher.

Based on a twenty-year friendship, which has seen them graduate from bumping into each other at gigs to lending their last rolls of film to becoming trustworthy shooting partners, Six Shooters is both a revolutionary concept and working co-op.

Today this group of photographers is the most sought after in the business, having between them shot every notable band and musician and toured with the very best. Their work has been published in the Sunday Times, Rolling Stone, Mojo, Q, Spin, Dazed and Confused, Kerrang, NME, Metal Hammer, Uncut, Time and Vanity Fair, to name but a few.

Friends of the West Hollywood Library Bookstore To Officially Open March 31

Ribbon-cutting ceremony and day-long book sale will be held by the Friends of the West Hollywood Library (FOL) in celebration of its bookstore’s official opening
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and a day-long book sale will be held by the Friends of the West Hollywood Library (FOL), in celebration of its bookstore’s official opening. The event will take place on Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., in the AutoCourt of the New West Hollywood Library. 


In addition to the book sale, the City of West Hollywood’s The Big Read 2012 programming will be introduced. Taking place in April, The Big Read’s focus will be Ray Bradbury’s classic book Fahrenheit 451. 

A silent auction and refreshments will be part of the day’s celebration. In honor of what would have been Dr. Seuss’s 108th birthday this month, a beautiful handmade “Dr. Seuss” quilt will be auctioned. The bidding will close at 2 p.m.
