UNIVERSAL @ 100 x 36: HAMMER MUSEUM SCREENS 3 DOZEN CLASSICS AT BILLY WILDER THEATER

by Don Rose

-

Wow, has it really been a century already? Yes, Universal Pictures is 100 years young (ok, old) this year! And we lucky Angelenos (in particular, Westwoodians) get to see three (count ‘em, three!) dozen classic screenings on the big screen at the Hammer Museum (Billy Wilder Theatre) to help celebrate the cinematic occasion.

New Five Guys Burgers and Fries Opens Today On Broxton In Westwood Village; Can They Beat Out In-N-Out’s Klout?

By Don Rose

-

Today, March 12, 2012, marks the beginning of what could become an epic Battle of the Burgers in Westwood Village. The reason: popular chow chain Five Guys Burgers and Fries opens on Broxton, between Kinross and Weyburn. In-N-Out, already a fixture among the college crowd, has a popular burgery just a few blocks away on Gayley. Who will win out between these boffo Burger Behemoths?

-

Then again, perhaps meat and potato lovers will just relax, rejoice and revel in both restaurants. Who needs a fight? After all, there’s more than two meals a day - plenty of room for both to succeed. (On the other hand, one may recall that the last hot business to come to Westwood Village to unseat a town fave was Red Mango, which recently closed after failing to draw enough people from the big cheese in Westwood froyo, Yogurtland on Lindbrook.)

-

I say, let’s all go to Five Guys on Broxton and judge for ourselves.

800 Degrees Pizza Officially Open in Westwood Village; Opened January 2, Open Til 2am Daily

by Don Rose
-
Yes, Los Angeles foodies, 800 Degrees Pizza has opened its doors in Westwood Village, and it’s a big hit. The new eatery offers a unique spin on pizza thanks to 4 Fs: Fast, Fire, Fun, Feast! (We hear their ingredients are healthy as well, and a Fifth F: Fresh!) The new eatery says, “Doors are open and the oven is hot, LA! Grab lunch for under $10 and ready in less than 3 minutes.”
-
We recommend you give it a try. The lines out the door every night show just how popular the 800 Degrees Pizza concept has been. (TIP: try going before evening rolls around, or late late at night; they are open til 2am nightly).

INFO SUMMARY:
800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria in Westwood

FUN FACT:
Technically they don’t have a ‘kitchen’ - their prep areas, oven, etc are right what you see in front of you! (Looks like a friendly pizza assembly line - a see-it-made-live concept that kinda reminds me of Chipotle.) Makes for a fun date.

Westwood Live: Monthly Third Thursday Event Appears To Be On Hold, For Now

It was off last month, and now for February it appears once again that Westwood Live is not taking place.

According to a comment on their Facebook page, ”As far as we know, the event is on hold for the time being. Check back here for more updates.” That was dated “Yesterday at 10:43am”.

Perhaps it is due to the winter cold-ish weather that the “monthly” event is on hold, but I am gonna be positive and assume it will return on the Third Thursday in March.

For updates, check out their FB page.

Skylight Gardens Eatery Opening Soon in Westwood Village, Adding to World Class Cuisine Corner

by Don Rose

-

We are working on getting the exact date, but all of Westwood is abuzz about the impending January opening of a new restaurant, Skylight Gardens, at the corner of Glendon and Lindbrook (across from the Hammer Museum). This is, of course, the location of the former Hamlet Gardens, and thankfully the outside architecture looks unaltered from that previous Gardens. We at Wire LA can’t wait to try the new eatery, which is now the third high class restaurant to reside on that corner (the other two being Palomino and Napa Valley Grille - and if you count the Wolfgang Puck cafe inside the Hammer, that makes four!).
